It is a large-scale water theme park with leading quantity of facilities and top-tier specifications of rides worldwide. Most of the amusement facilities in the park are imported original overseas equipment, including multiple exclusive slide facilities that have won international amusement industry awards. Since 2013, it has ranked first globally for the highest annual visitor attendance among water parks for consecutive years, and has been repeatedly awarded the Annual Must-Visit Water Park by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. The park boasts complete supporting facilities with multiple tourist service centers, catering shops, shower and changing rooms, storage areas and medical stations. Centered on tropical water-playing styles, it features thrilling competitive rides for young visitors and casual parent-child water play zones for all age groups. Its annual visitor volume has long ranked top among all water parks across the globe.

History & Culture

Chimelong Water Park officially opened to the public in May 2007. It was the first large-scale high-end water theme park in South China, filling the market gap of large constant-temperature water parks in China at that time. Upon opening, it introduced multiple world-class slides and quickly became a core summer water-play destination in South China thanks to its abundant rides. It was listed in the World’s Top 20 Water Parks ranking the same year. In 2008, its affiliated Guangzhou Chimelong Tourist Resort was rated as one of the first batch of national 5A-level tourist attractions, and the water park was incorporated into the core amusement section of the national resort.

In 2012, the park added the Heat Wave Valley themed zone with expanded large casual water facilities such as Giant Flood Canyon, enriching its gentle drifting offerings. In 2013, the park received 2.17 million annual visitors and claimed the top spot for global annual water park attendance for the first time. It has since continuously broken its own records for total annual visitors and average daily visitors among global water parks, winning IAAPA’s Global Must-Visit Water Park title year after year. From 2013 to 2017, it steadily secured a spot in the World’s Top 20 Water Parks chart and set a benchmark model for China’s water park industry.

The park has continuously upgraded and renewed amusement facilities over the years, introducing exclusive world-class water rides. In 2025, it completed major facility upgrades with two new top-tier international slides: Storm Double Cannon and Sky Twin Wave, complemented by the Magnetic Launch Water Coaster to complete its lineup of thrilling slides. Meanwhile, the park has deeply developed nighttime cultural tourism content, including Starlight Water Parties, water EDM shows and themed parades. Its parent Chimelong Resort was named a National Nighttime Cultural and Tourism Consumption Cluster in 2022, making the water park’s nighttime water entertainment a core component of nighttime cultural tourism consumption. Taking water leisure as its carrier, the park integrates tropical styles, Chinese mythological themes from the Classic of Mountains and Seas and trendy EDM culture, forming a themed park with multiple functions including entertainment, nighttime cultural tourism and family getaways.
