History and Culture
The predecessor of Tianshan Wildlife Park was Urumqi Zoo. In 2005, it was relocated to the current site and renamed Tianshan Wildlife Park. The new park is located at the foot of Bogda Peak on the northern slope of the Tianshan Mountains. This area was once the passage of the new northern route of the ancient Silk Road and was a historical activity area for nomadic peoples. When constructing the park, great attention was paid to protecting the local natural ecology, preserving the original desert vegetation and mountain terrain, while integrating Western Regions cultural elements. The tourist service center and science venues display the history and achievements of wildlife protection in Xinjiang, as well as animal cultural symbols along the Silk Road.
