Wanlong Ski Resort is located in the Honghualiang area, Chongli District, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. It is the only national 4A-level tourist attraction in China featuring skiing. The resort covers an area of 58 square kilometers, with a maximum altitude of 2110.3 meters and a vertical drop of 554 meters. Boasting advantageous natural snowfall conditions and a well-developed artificial snowmaking system, it has excellent snow quality and is known as "China's Powder Snow Paradise". The ski resort has 32 high-quality ski trails with a total length of 44.99 kilometers, including primary, intermediate, advanced, teaching, and children's trails. Additionally, there is a 2.3 million square meter forest backcountry skiing area, catering to skiers of different levels. In terms of transportation capacity, it is equipped with 7 cable cars and 3 magic carpets, with a total capacity of 14,530 people per hour. The high-speed cable car takes only about 6 minutes to go up and down the mountain. The ski equipment hall stores over 1,400 sets of ski equipment and provides rental services for snowboards, helmets, and other gear. The supporting facilities are complete, with 5 hotels and 8 themed restaurants, offering tourists a comfortable vacation experience integrating skiing, accommodation, and catering.

Historical Culture

Wanlong Ski Resort was founded in 2003. In 2005, it was rated as the first national 4A-level tourist attraction featuring skiing by the former National Tourism Administration, marking a new stage in the standardized development of China's ski resort scenic areas. In the same year, Wanlong Ski School was established, dedicated to popularizing ski teaching. It offers courses ranging from zero-based enlightenment to advanced full-mountain skiing techniques, as well as alpine competitive specialized courses for children and adults. Its winter camps are well-received by students, laying the foundation for cultivating ice and snow sports talents.

Since its operation, Wanlong Ski Resort has received over 3 million skiers in total, becoming an important landmark for ice and snow sports in China. Over the years, it has successfully hosted numerous events such as the "3rd to 6th China · Chongli International Ski Festival" (2003 - 2006), the 2019 Asian Cup Ski Mountaineering Race and National Ski Mountaineering Challenge, and the 2019 - 2020 National Snowboard Parallel Championships. These events not only enhanced its own popularity but also promoted the exchange and integration of China's ice and snow sports with the international community, leaving a profound mark in the history of China's ski industry development.

Wolong Trail

Wolong Trail is a primary magic carpet area, 300 meters long and 50 meters wide, with an average slope of only 5 degrees. It has a gentle terrain and a wide view, specially designed for beginners and children as an initial skiing area. Changlong Trail is a primary ski trail, 4.8 kilometers long, and one of the longest primary ski trails in Wanlong Ski Resort. Its slope is gentle and evenly changing, suitable for beginners who have mastered basic movements to practice long-distance skiing. During the process of skiing from the top to the bottom of the mountain, skiers can gradually consolidate skills such as edge changing and deceleration, improving skiing fluency. It is an ideal ski trail for beginners to transition to the intermediate level.

Yulong Trail / Youlong Trail

Both Yulong Trail and Youlong Trail are intermediate ski trails, with high flatness and stable snow quality, making them the preferred venues for advanced skiers to practice carving and other skills. The two trails are cleverly designed, with moderate curves and slope changes, allowing skiers to experience the joy of accelerated skiing while improving their technical control ability through continuous turns. They are suitable for skiers with certain foundations to challenge themselves and improve their level.

Menglong Trail Mushroom Area

Menglong Trail Mushroom Area is located at the core of the backcountry skiing area, with 2.3 million square meters of natural powder snow resources. It is famous for its unique "mushroom" terrain (i.e., snow mounds) and is a paradise for backcountry skiing enthusiasts. Yinlong Trail Entrance

The entrance of Yinlong Trail is an excellent place to watch the sunset in Wanlong Ski Resort. Take the cable car to the top of the mountain before 16:30 every day, and you can enjoy the magnificent scene of the orange-pink sky and the snow-capped cedar trees. Tour Routes

Beginner Route: Start at Wolong Trail, use the magic carpet to practice basic movements such as uphill pushing and plow stopping. Once balance is mastered, head to Changlong Trail for long-distance skiing. The entire 4.8-kilometer trail takes about 1.5 hours, allowing you to gradually get familiar with edge-changing techniques and consolidate basic skiing skills. Intermediate Route: After reaching an intermediate level, first practice carved turns on Yulong Trail and Youlong Trail, skiing each trail 2-3 times, which takes about 2 hours. Then enter some low-difficulty forest backcountry areas to experience skiing on natural snow trails. The total distance is approximately 5 kilometers, taking 3-4 hours. Expert Route: Directly challenge the mushroom area of Menglong Trail, perform complex skiing movements on the backcountry terrain, and then switch between advanced trails such as Jinlong Trail and the advanced section of Yinlong Trail. The total skiing distance is 8-10 kilometers, taking 4-5 hours, allowing you to fully enjoy the speed and passion of high-difficulty skiing.

Travel Suggestions

  • It is recommended to book the "ski & stay package" in advance, which includes ski tickets and accommodation. It saves about 30% compared to separate purchases and has a higher cost performance.
  • Beginners are advised to rent protective gear such as hip protectors and knee pads, with a rental fee of about 50 yuan per set per day, which can effectively reduce the risk of injury from falls.
  • The wind force on the top of Chongli Mountain is relatively strong. It is recommended to wear a three-layer warm combination of quick-drying clothes + down liner + windproof jacket to prevent getting cold.
  • Snow reflects ultraviolet rays strongly. It is necessary to wear a windproof mask and apply sunscreen with SPF50 + to avoid skin sunburn.
  • Pay attention to the official announcement of the ski resort. The night session is usually open until 21:30, when there are fewer people and the snow quality is good, and you can also experience the unique atmosphere of night skiing.

Transportation

  • High-speed Rail: Take the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-speed Rail to Taizicheng Station. The high-speed rail ticket from Beijing North Station to Taizicheng Station is about 80 yuan per person.
  • Self-driving: Starting from Madian, Beijing, drive via Badaling Expressway and Beijing-Zhangjiakou Expressway, with a total distance of about 240 kilometers, taking 3 hours. The expressway fee is about 100 yuan, and the ski resort parking lot charges 5 yuan per hour.
  • Bus: Wanlong Ski Resort has opened shuttle buses from Beijing Capital Airport and Beijing South Railway Station to Chongli, with a one-way ticket price of 80 yuan per person. Opening Hours

It is open all year round. In the non-ski season (about May - October), it offers mountain golf, UTV off-roading and other leisure projects, with opening hours from 9:00 to 18:00. The ski season usually starts in mid-to-late November and ends in early April of the following year, with specific times adjusted according to the snow conditions of the year. The daytime opening hours are from 8:30 to 17:00, and the night session is from 18:30 to 21:30 (open on Fridays to Sundays and holidays, subject to the ski resort announcement).
