Invested and built by Chimelong Group with a total investment of over 20 billion RMB, it covers an area of approximately 132 hectares. It is a national-level tourist resort themed on the ocean, integrating theme parks, resort hotels, cultural performances, business exhibitions, catering and leisure services.

The core components of the resort include Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, Chimelong Spaceship Park, Chimelong Theatre, Chimelong Kaka Theatre, Chimelong Hengqin International Circus City, as well as Chimelong Hengqin Bay Hotel, Chimelong Penguin Hotel, Chimelong Circus Hotel and Chimelong Spaceship Hotel. Among them, Chimelong Ocean Kingdom officially opened to the public on March 29, 2014. It is a large-scale ocean theme park independently developed by China with proprietary intellectual property rights. It features eight themed zones that bring together rare marine animals, large amusement rides and theatre performances. In 2014, the Whale Shark Aquarium together with the whole Ocean Kingdom set five Guinness World Records and was certified as the world’s largest aquarium with a total water volume of around 48.75 million litres. It also won relevant awards from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) in the same year.

In terms of building and supporting scale, according to public data released by the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone, the land area of Chimelong International Tourist Resort is about 2.98 million square metres, and the completed building area is approximately 1.151 million square metres. Chimelong Hengqin Bay Hotel has roughly 1,888 guest rooms. Its conference and exhibition area totals about 8,340 square metres, with a maximum capacity for around 2,600 people.

History and Culture

The construction of Zhuhai Chimelong International Ocean Resort began amid the development of Hengqin. In 2009, Hengqin New Area of Zhuhai was officially established. Responding to the cultural tourism layout of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Chimelong Group launched the ocean-themed resort project in Fuxiangwan, Hengqin, with a total investment exceeding 20 billion RMB.

In January 2014, Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, the first theme park of the resort, and Chimelong Hengqin International Circus City, its first performance venue, opened for trial operation on the same day. On March 29 of the same year, Chimelong Ocean Kingdom officially opened to visitors. At launch, Ocean Kingdom set five Guinness World Records thanks to venues including the Whale Shark Aquarium, certified as the world’s largest aquarium and one of the world’s leading ocean theme parks by total water volume at that time.

The resort continued expansion afterwards. Chimelong Theatre, the resort’s second permanent performance venue, was completed and put into use at the centre of the resort, connecting the Fuxiang River waterfront pedestrian street and Chimelong Ocean Kingdom. In 2023, the super-large indoor theme park Chimelong Spaceship Park and its supporting Chimelong Spaceship Hotel opened. Centred on marine ecology and space exploration, Spaceship Park contains fifteen themed visiting zones including Cosmic World, Canyon Planet, Star Platform and Coral Secret Realm, plus multiple featured amusement facilities. The resort upgraded from a single ocean theme to a super-large tourism matrix combining marine and land attractions, indoor and outdoor experiences.

Chimelong Group is a local Chinese cultural tourism enterprise. Zhuhai Chimelong International Ocean Resort is another world-class national cultural tourism resort built after Chimelong Guangzhou. It has long served functions for Guangdong-Macao cooperation, cultural tourism integration within the Greater Bay Area and reception for celebrations marking Macao’s return. In 2019, it was displayed as a tribute project for the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland.

Tips for Visiting

  • Arrive before park opening. Collect performance schedules first and plan your visit backwards according to show times for Dolphin Theatre, Sea Lion Theatre and Beluga show.

  • To watch the Ocean Night Parade and fireworks & light show, stay until closing time. Arrive at Hengqin Lake 30 minutes in advance to reserve a viewing spot.
  • For families with young children, prioritise Discovery Bay and Spaceship Park. Rides such as roller coasters are optional depending on visitor height and courage.
