Macau Island Tour is located in Wanzhai Subdistrict, Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province. It is a classic offshore sightseeing project in Zhuhai and not a fixed land scenic spot. Departing from Wanzhai Tourist Wharf, the cruise sails across the waters between Zhuhai and Macau without docking at any land in Macau. Visitors do not need a Mainland Resident Exit and Entry Permit for Hong Kong and Macau to view landmarks on the Macau Peninsula and Taipa from a distance. The cruise lasts about 90 minutes and features multi-deck open viewing areas, indoor cabins and commentary services. The route runs along the coast of Hengqin in Zhuhai and passes many iconic buildings and cross-sea bridges of Macau, offering a close-up sea view of the coastal cityscape of Zhuhai and Macau.
History and Culture
Macau Island Tour is one of the earliest featured offshore tourism projects developed in Zhuhai. It gradually took shape after Wanzhai Wharf launched offshore sightseeing services in the 1980s. Benefiting from its geographical location facing Macau across the sea, it became a way for mainland visitors to enjoy the scenery of Macau without entering the territory. In the early days, it mainly served mainland tourists, focusing on distant sea views of buildings on the Macau Peninsula and coastal scenery. For a long time, it was a representative tourism brand of Zhuhai.
Following Macau’s return to China, the advancement of urban construction in Zhuhai and Macau and the completion of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the landscapes along the route have been continuously updated and cruise facilities upgraded. Two product types, daytime cruises and night cruises, have been formed. Night cruises are very popular for visitors to admire the lit buildings of Macau and night views of cross-sea bridges. This offshore route witnesses the coordinated development of Zhuhai and Macau and carries the unique coastal sightseeing culture linking the Zhuhai Special Economic Zone and Macau.
Main Attractions
Macau Tower
Standing at 338 metres, Macau Tower is a landmark tower in Macau integrating sightseeing, dining and adventure experiences. Visitors can view the tower from the sea during the cruise. Its outline is clearly visible on daytime trips, and lighting illuminates the tower at night, creating a striking visual effect. It is one of the most recognisable landmarks on the island tour route.
Macau-Taipa Bridge (Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge)
Opened in 1974, the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge stretches 3450 metres, connecting the Macau Peninsula and Taipa Island. It features elegant curved lines and has won international design awards. It is Macau’s first cross-sea bridge and part of the scenic view "Mirror Sea Rainbow". The cruise passes near the bridge, allowing visitors to fully admire its form spanning the bay.
Ponte de Amizade (Friendship Bridge)
Friendship Bridge is the longest of Macau’s three cross-sea bridges with a wave-shaped alignment. It also links the Macau Peninsula and Taipa Island and features wide traffic lanes. Together with the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge and Sai Van Bridge, it forms Macau’s cross-sea transport network. Visitors at sea can compare the distinct design styles of the three bridges.
Sai Van Bridge
Sai Van Bridge is a double-deck cable-stayed bridge. Its lower deck remains open for traffic during typhoons. With uniquely shaped bridge towers, it is a key landmark in the Sai Van area of Macau and sits close to Macau Tower. When the cruise sails through Sai Van waters, Macau Tower and Sai Van Bridge appear in one frame, making it a popular photography spot.
Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre
The Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre stands on an artificial island in Macau Outer Harbour. Its centrepiece is a bronze statue of Guanyin on a white lotus base. It is a major religious art landmark in Macau. The cruise passes through Outer Harbour waters, offering a frontal view of the Guanyin statue on the lotus plinth.
Macao Science Center
Macao Science Center features a distinctive silver-grey conch-shaped facade, containing exhibition halls and a planetarium. It sits along the Outer Harbour waterfront of the Macau Peninsula right next to the Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre. The modern building can be seen in full from the sea.
Grand Lisboa
Grand Lisboa is a well-known Macau landmark shaped like a lotus flower with a huge volume. It is located in the core zone of the Macau Peninsula and enjoys wide open sea views. Its appearance differs greatly between daytime and lit night scenes, and it is a favourite building for visitors to photograph along the route.
Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (Zhuhai-Macao Section)
The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is a world-class cross-sea mega-project. The Macau Island Tour cruise overlooks the Zhuhai-Macao Port Artificial Island and the main bridge, presenting the grand view of the bridge, artificial island and bay integrated together.
Hengqin Financial Island
Hengqin Financial Island lies on the coast of Hengqin New Area in Zhuhai, on the Zhuhai side of the water. Rows of modern high-rise buildings line the waterfront, forming a new urban landmark of Zhuhai visible at the early part of the cruise route.
