The cultural foundation of Shanghai Romance Park is rooted in the thousand-year development context of Shanghai. From Huating Ancient Town in the Tang and Song dynasties, to a major commercial town in the Jiangnan water town during the Ming and Qing dynasties, then to the integration of Chinese and Western cultures after the opening of the port in modern times, and finally to the transformation into a contemporary international metropolis, the scenic area completely presents this historical process through performances and scene restoration. Among them, the century-old changes of modern Shanghai are the core of the scenic area's cultural expression, focusing on the key historical nodes after Shanghai opened its port in 1843, such as the collision of Chinese and Western cultures, the rise of national industry, and the formation of Shanghai-style culture, restoring the civic life, commercial prosperity and humanistic features of old Shanghai.
Shanghai-style culture is the core main line of the scenic area's historical and cultural expression. It not only contains the gentle heritage of Jiangnan culture, but also integrates the open characteristics of Western culture, reflecting Shanghai's urban spirit of "Inclusiveness and tolerance". By replicating the architectural styles of old Shanghai Shikumen and the Bund, the living scenes of alleys, etc., combined with the dynamic display of local intangible cultural heritage skills (such as Shanghai opera, Pingtan, Shanghai-style paper-cutting), the scenic area allows tourists to immerse themselves in the unique charm of Shanghai-style culture.
Main Attractions
Shanghai Romance Park Grand Theatre
As the core attraction of the scenic area, this theater can accommodate more than 3,000 audiences and is a leading high-tech immersive performance venue in China. The performance takes time as the axis and is divided into chapters including "The Origin of Shanghai", "1921", "The Bund in the 1930s", "Shanghai Families" and "The Wind from the Sea". Using holographic projection, stage machinery, live performances and other means, it reproduces Shanghai's century-old transformation from a small fishing village to an international metropolis. Each performance lasts about 60 minutes, which is a core experience project to understand Shanghai's history and culture.
Old Shanghai Style Street
With a total length of about 200 meters, Old Shanghai Style Street replicates the street scenes of Nanjing Road and Avenue Joffre in Shanghai in the 1930s. It includes replica stores of time-honored brands (such as Shen Dacheng and Lao Fengxiang), Shikumen buildings, rickshaws, old-fashioned trams and other real-scene restorations. There are regular performances of local folk arts such as Shanghai opera and farce in the block. Parent-Child Amusement Area
Covering an area of about 20 mu, the Parent-Child Amusement Area is built for family tourists. It includes more than ten non-powered and light amusement facilities such as "Star Storm", "Carousel" and "Mini Roller Coaster". - Tour Duration: The core experience of the scenic area takes 6-8 hours. If you only experience the core performance and main attractions, it is recommended to reserve 4-5 hours.
- Best Travel Time: The climate is pleasant in spring and autumn (March-May and September-November). The scenic area's night light show is open until 9:00 p.m. in summer (June-August), providing a richer experience.
