Shanghai Film Park is located at No. 4915 Beisong Highway, Chedun Town, Songjiang District, Shanghai. It is a national 4A-level tourist attraction, one of China's top ten film and television bases, and an immersive composite scenic area integrating film and television shooting with tourism and sightseeing, featuring the reproduction of the customs of old Shanghai. Based on the urban style of Shanghai from the early to the mid-20th century, the park is built in a restored style. With a strong retro atmosphere and realistic architectural scenes, it has become a popular filming location for numerous film and television dramas, variety shows and commercials set in Shanghai, allowing ordinary tourists to experience the bustling charm and urban life of the "Bund and Nanjing Road" in old Shanghai firsthand. The park covers a total area of about 1200 mu, with a constructed floor area of about 150,000 square meters in the core open area for tourists. The buildings in the park include European-style villas, Shikumen lilongs, retro streets, railway stations, docks and other types. From the overall layout to the detailed decorations, they highly restore the urban style of old Shanghai, which not only meets the scene needs of film and television shooting but also provides tourists with an immersive sightseeing experience.

Historical and Cultural Background

Formerly known as Shanghai Chedun Film and Television Base founded in 1992, Shanghai Film Park was initially built to meet the urgent demand of the domestic film and television industry for shooting scenes of old Shanghai, making up for the shortage of such filming locations and the insufficient restoration of scenes at that time. In the initial stage of construction, the park invited historians, architectural experts and film and television practitioners to participate in the planning together. Based on a large number of historical photos and documents of old Shanghai, it restored representative urban buildings and blocks. Officially opened to tourists in 1998, it has gradually developed from a single film and television shooting base into a comprehensive scenic area integrating film and television shooting, tourism and sightseeing, and cultural experience.

Shanghai Film Park carries a strong Haipai culture and film and television cultural memories. From the perspective of film and television creation, more than 400 film and television works have been shot here since its establishment, including influential works such as Lust, Caution, Ip Man, New Bund, The Disguiser and The Age of Awakening. Many famous actors have shot scenes here, and many scenes in the park have become well-known to the audience through film and television works, serving as the real embodiment of "old Shanghai on the screen". From the perspective of history and culture, the restored buildings and scenes in the park correspond to the urban development context of Shanghai from its opening as a treaty port to the Republican period. Shikumen buildings carry the living memories of ordinary Shanghai citizens, European-style villas show the concession culture of Shanghai at that time, and railway stations and docks restore the transportation and trade scenes of old Shanghai. These scenes are not only props for film and television shooting but also a concrete presentation of Haipai culture, allowing tourists to intuitively experience the historical customs and cultural heritage of old Shanghai during the visit.

Main Attractions

Nanjing Road

As one of the core attractions of Shanghai Film Park, Nanjing Road is a restored reproduction of the prosperous style of Shanghai's Nanjing Road in the 1930s, with a total length of about 400 meters. On both sides of the street stand more than ten multi-storey buildings with European and Haipai styles, housing the facades of various businesses such as department stores, banks, cafes, newspaper offices and clothing stores. The facades of the buildings highly restore the decorative styles of that time, with retro neon signs, vintage posters and window displays full of a sense of times. Retro cars, rickshaws and other props are placed on the street, highly consistent with the Nanjing Road in film and television scenes. Many works such as Lust, Caution and New Bund have been shot here. Tourists can intuitively experience the prosperous scene of the "bustling Nanjing Road" in old Shanghai while strolling here, which is also a popular spot for taking photos.
