Liuxing Street is located on the northwest side within Yining Urban Area, Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang. It starts from Jiangsu Road in the east, borders Jiefang Road in the south, reaches Yili Normal University in the west, and borders Huancheng North Road in the north. The area of the scenic area is about 47 hectares. It is a national 4A-level scenic area, and it is also a national cultural and tourism leisure block and a national-level night cultural and tourism consumption gathering area.
The feature of Liuxing Street lies in its unique hexagonal street layout. The plane is circular, with six main roads radiating outward from the center, dividing the block into six fan-shaped areas. There are various architectural styles in the block, such as the spired small attics in European style, the semi-bowed window lattices with a strong Islamic style, the log cabin porches with iron roofs in Russian style, and the wood carvings in Uyghur style. There are multiple ethnic groups living here, including the Han, Kazak, Hui, Uyghur, Russian, and Tatar ethnic groups. The coexistence, symbiosis, and integration of multiple ethnic groups have formed a rich and colorful cultural atmosphere.
History and Culture
Liuxing Street was initially built in 1935 and planned and designed by the German engineer Vasily. After the Yili Tuntian Commissioner's Office was relocated from Huocheng Huiyuan to Yining in 1934, Yining became the political, economic, and cultural center of Yili. At that time, Xinjiang implemented the "Six Major Policies" of anti-imperialism, pro-Soviet, ethnic equality, peace, construction, and integrity. Liuxing Street was planned and designed based on this concept. The block has witnessed the unique cultural symbiosis phenomenon of the combination of foreign and local cultures, has unique historical and cultural values, and has great research value in architectural history, urban development history, and folklore.
