History and Culture
Formerly known as Bao’an Coastal Cultural Park, OH Bay was a key coastal urban renewal project of Bao’an District during its planning and construction phase. Relying on the coastal resources of Qianhai Bay, it was built as a public urban coastal space. The project was developed under the leadership of Overseas Chinese Town. The commercial and park sections of the area gradually opened to the public in 2019. On 18 April 2021, Bay Glory Ferris Wheel officially started operation, marking the full completion of the cultural and tourism project.
Rooted in the coastal cultural characteristics of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and inspired by the ocean, the project incorporates marine-themed design elements including the fin-shaped special support frame of Bay Glory Ferris Wheel, coastal footpaths and waterfront stages. The scenic area regularly hosts public cultural events such as the Bay Area International Theatre Life Festival, Starry Music Festival, Shenzhen Light and Shadow Art Season and Park Cultural Season, providing outdoor art performances, dramas and music exhibitions for visitors. In July 2024, OH Bay was officially rated as a national 4A-level tourist attraction, the new national 4A-level tourist attraction in Shenzhen since 2017. Since opening, the scenic spot has received nearly 40 million visitors. It has earned honours including one of the Top 10 Landmarks of Night-time Economy, Shenzhen Demonstrative Characteristic Commercial Circle and Child-Friendly Practice Base.
