Zhuhai Imperial Hot Spring is located at No. 333 North Doumen Avenue, Doumen Town, Doumen District, Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province. It is a National 4A-level Tourist Attraction with an approved area of 27,000 square meters. Officially opened on February 28, 1998, it is one of the early Japanese-style open-air hot spring resorts in China and a benchmark project for China’s hot spring tourism industry. Nestled at the western foot of Huangyang Mountain, the resort is built around natural hot spring resources. The spring water emerges at approximately 70 degrees Celsius, classified as high-temperature chloride metasilicate mineral water. It contains metasilicic acid, lithium, bromine and many other minerals beneficial to human health. The hot spring water is not reheated or recycled, and pools are cleaned and refilled every 4 hours. The architecture blends Tang Dynasty style with Japanese hot spring design. Wooden gates, log cabins, small bridges over flowing water, rockeries and waterfalls create a relaxing holiday atmosphere. The resort includes accommodation zones: Yingzhuang, Yunlai Inn, Changsheng Manor and Imperial Spring Mansion, offering a total of 500 guest rooms. Supporting facilities cover hot spring halls, catering outlets, wellness centres and temple fair blocks, forming a hot spring resort integrating hot spring bathing, gourmet dining, accommodation and folk activities.

History and Culture

The name Imperial Hot Spring originates from folk legends passed down around Huangyang Mountain in Doumen. According to legend, towards the end of the Southern Song Dynasty, an Emperor of the Song passed Huangyang Mountain and discovered a hot spring. After bathing and feeling refreshed, he ordered a three-year tax exemption for the local area. Local residents later named this spring Imperial Hot Spring, which became the core cultural origin of the attraction.

In the development of China’s modern hot spring industry, Imperial Hot Spring was an early pioneer of standardized operation in the domestic hot spring sector. It pioneered the business model of open-air hot spring resorts and promoted the development of hot spring holiday formats across China. The resort created the Xiaotang Town Temple Fair culture, combining traditional folk customs, intangible cultural heritage displays and street markets. It hosts intangible cultural heritage experiences including sugar painting, paper-cutting and pottery. Xiaotang Town is also an Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Base of Zhuhai, regularly staging shadow puppetry, puppet shows, pitch-pot games and other folk activities, merging traditional temple fair culture with hot spring holiday scenarios.
