Chongqing Zoo is located at Xijiao Yicun, Yangjiaping, Jiulongpo District, Chongqing. It is a national 4A-level tourist attraction. Founded in 1953, it covers an area of 43.5 hectares. The park features a typical hilly terrain, presenting a style of mountain zoo with fresh and beautiful natural scenery. As the main part of the park, the animal exhibition area covers about 29 hectares, accounting for approximately 70% of the park's accessible area. The zoo permanently exhibits more than 230 species of wild animals, with a total number of over 4,000 individuals (heads), among which rare and protected animals account for more than 80%.
Historical Culture
The origin of Chongqing Zoo can be traced back to August 1953, when the Chongqing Municipal Construction Bureau established a special team to be responsible for its preparation. In September of the same year, under professional guidance, a site was selected around Xiashiqiao in Yangjiaping, with Taohua Creek as the core area. An area of 10 hectares was allocated to establish "Yangjiaping Park". In March 1954, the construction of infrastructure started; upon completion at the end of December that year, the park was renamed "Xiqu Park" and opened to the public on January 24, 1955. In 1958, in accordance with relevant instructions, Xiqu Park began to be transformed into a zoo. After multiple expansions and adjustments, it was officially renamed "Chongqing Zoo" in October 1960. By 1966, it had developed into a medium-sized zoo with both scale and complete functions.
Since then, the zoo has continuously explored its operation mode. For example, in 1979, it organized off-site animal exhibitions and carried out cultural and entertainment activities, which significantly increased its operating income and the number of visitors. In 2009, it was awarded the titles of "National Key Park" and "National AAAA-Level Tourist Attraction" by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. It also became the Aquatic Animal Rescue Center and Terrestrial Animal Rescue Center of Chongqing's main urban area, a National Science Popularization Education Base, and a Chongqing Study Travel Demonstration Base, among other designations.

Every day, interesting and exciting bird shows are performed in a regular cycle here for visitors to watch for free.

Red Pandas
Red pandas look like cats, with reddish-brown fur all over their bodies. They have short and thick limbs, and a long, thick, and fluffy tail. They mainly live in coniferous-broadleaf mixed forests or evergreen broad-leaved forests with bamboo thickets at an altitude of less than 3,000 meters. They have a large activity range: in summer, they mostly move in river valleys with streams on the shady slopes; in winter, they move to river valley basins on the sunny slopes.

Cute Animal Area
The Cute Animal Area is a newly built ecological venue opened in September 2008, covering an area of 4,679 square meters.
