Chimelong Ocean Kingdom is located at Fuxiangwan, Hengqin‑Guangdong‑Macao Deep‑Demonstration Cooperation Zone, Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province. It is the core theme park of Chimelong International Ocean Tourist Resort, a national‑level tourist resort. Covering an area of 132 hectares, it is a large‑scale ocean‑themed park independently developed by China with proprietary intellectual property rights. The park consists of eight themed zones, integrating rare marine‑animal exhibits, large‑scale amusement rides and original live‑action shows. The Whale Shark Aquarium inside holds multiple Guinness World Records, including the world’s largest aquarium and an oversized acrylic viewing panel. The park set seven Guinness World Records upon opening. It features marine‑polar animal presentations, thrilling rides, themed float parades and nighttime fireworks performances. Balancing science‑popularization education and leisure entertainment, it suits visitors of all ages and ranks as a well‑known ocean‑tourism destination in the Guangdong‑Hong‑Kong‑Macao Greater Bay Area.
History and Culture
The Chimelong International Ocean Tourist Resort project, where Chimelong Ocean Kingdom sits, was initiated in 2008. The selected site, Fuxiangwan of Hengqin, was mostly tidal flats at that time. After years of research and design, the project was independently developed and constructed by Chimelong Group. Chimelong Ocean Kingdom entered trial operation in January 2014 and officially opened to the public on March 29 of the same year.
Since opening, the resort has won multiple international cultural‑tourism awards. In 2014, it received the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement, the first time a Chinese theme park obtained this honor. Its subsequent projects, the 5D Castle Theatre and the Ocean Night Parade of Lights, claimed further TEA Thea Awards in 2017 and 2018 respectively. Centered on marine‑animal conservation and ocean‑science popularization, the park runs continuous animal‑protection and study‑tour programs. Leveraging Hengqin’s geographic proximity to Macao, it takes part in cultural‑tourism exchanges between Hengqin and Macao and hosts supporting events for the China International Circus Festival.
Through years of operation, the park keeps upgrading live shows and improving animal‑conservation facilities. It has received hundreds of millions of visitors, promotes the development of ocean‑science cultural tourism, and builds a world‑class ocean‑themed amusement park with distinct local Chinese characteristics.
Main Attractions
Ocean Avenue
Ocean Avenue serves as the entry zone of the park. A giant manta‑ray‑shaped canopy screen above the entrance continuously projects marine‑creature footage. Both sides of the avenue are lined with souvenir shops, food‑and‑beverage outlets and visitor‑service facilities. As a welcoming sightseeing area, it acts as the mandatory passage leading to the other eight themed zones.
Whale Shark Aquarium
The Whale Shark Aquarium is the park’s landmark venue. It features a giant acrylic viewing panel measuring 8.3 meters high and 39.6 meters long. Holding an enormous volume of water, the aquarium houses whale sharks, manta rays and tens of thousands of fish species, establishing several Guinness World Records. Visitors may observe whale sharks up close through the huge glass panel. The venue also features the Underwater Interactive Boat, offering underwater perspectives of the massive aquarium tank. It is the most‑visited exhibit within the park.
Dolphin Cove
Dolphin Cove centers on dolphin exhibits and the Dolphin Theatre. The exhibit houses Indo‑Pacific Humpback Dolphins, China’s national first‑class protected animals also nicknamed “the pandas of the sea”. The Dolphin Theatre presents scheduled marine‑animal performances featuring dolphin leaps and interactive acts within ocean‑adventure storylines. Adjacent small science‑popularization zones introduce knowledge on dolphin conservation.
Rainbow Reef
Rainbow Reef focuses on thrill rides, most famously the Parrot Coaster. Its track climbs to the height of nearly 20‑story buildings, delivering high‑speed dives and inversions as the park’s most intense roller‑coaster experience. The zone also includes the Rainforest Tower Drop. The whole area reproduces tropical‑rainforest scenery with abundant vegetation to create a tropical‑adventure atmosphere.
Sea‑Lion Cove
Sea‑Lion Cove mainly displays sea lions and fur seals. Its Sea‑Lion Theatre stages entertaining sea‑lion shows. Available rides here include the Rapids Racer and Surf‑Sailor. Rapids Racer is a water‑coaster attraction where boats plunge from high elevations into water for splashing excitement. Visitors may view South American sea lions and Cape fur seals in close‑range exhibits.
Polar Adventure
Polar Adventure recreates icy polar landscapes and contains the Polar Bear House, Penguin House, Beluga House and Beluga Theatre. Guests can watch polar bears swimming inside the Polar Bear House. The temperature‑controlled Penguin House keeps multiple penguin species including Emperor Penguins and Adélie Penguins. The Beluga Theatre hosts themed beluga performances displaying the animals’ graceful aquatic movements. The zone also features the Ice‑Mountain Coaster, which combines rafting and roller‑coaster elements and passes by polar‑animal exhibits.

Fun‑tastic World is a family‑friendly zone with mild‑intensity attractions suitable for young children. It includes fantasy ocean‑themed spinning rides, water‑play areas and small marine‑life exhibits. Equipped with family‑oriented restaurants and styled as an ocean fairy‑tale world, it serves as the primary visiting zone for family travellers.
Lagoon
The Lagoon is the park’s central lake area. It hosts jet‑flyer shows by day and the Ocean Night Parade of Lights plus grand fireworks displays after dark, acting as the core venue for nighttime entertainment. Multiple viewing platforms encircle the lagoon for watching fountains, float parades and fireworks, and it is also a key spot for visitor rest and photography.
