Shanghai LEGOLAND Resort is located in Fengjing Town, Jinshan District, Shanghai. It is the first LEGOLAND-themed resort in Shanghai, China, and also one of the largest LEGOLAND parks in the world. Centered on LEGO bricks, the resort integrates immersive amusement experiences, parent-child interactions and creative culture, creating a comprehensive cultural tourism destination that combines a theme park, supporting commercial facilities and themed hotels. The total area of the resort is about 318,000 square meters, among which the core area of the theme park covers approximately 200,000 square meters, with more than 80 LEGO-themed amusement facilities, performances and experience projects under planning and construction. In terms of architecture, the resort includes the main LEGOLAND theme park, two LEGO-themed hotels (one of which is a flagship parent-child-themed hotel of the LEGOLAND brand with about 300 guest rooms) and supporting commercial blocks. The overall architectural style inherits the color aesthetics and creative splicing style of LEGO bricks, combining childlike fun with modernity. Co-developed by Jinshan Urban Construction Investment Group, Merlin Entertainments Group and CMC Holdings, the project is positioned as a core leisure and vacation destination for parent-child families in the Yangtze River Delta, filling the gap of high-end parent-child theme parks in Shanghai and even the whole Yangtze River Delta region.

History and Culture

The LEGO brand originated in Denmark, founded by Ole Kirk Christiansen in 1932. The name "LEGO" is derived from the Danish words "leg godt", meaning "play well". Its core gameplay of brick splicing carries the cultural essence of creativity, imagination and parent-child interaction. After nearly a century of development, LEGOLAND has become a world-renowned parent-child theme park brand. By 2025, there are more than 20 LEGOLAND Resorts around the world, distributed in many countries and regions across Europe, America and Asia.

The establishment of Shanghai LEGOLAND Resort is an important achievement of cultural exchanges and cultural tourism industry cooperation between China and Denmark. Officially started construction in 2021, the project is a key benchmark project of Merlin Entertainments Group in China, as well as one of the major cultural tourism projects during Shanghai's "14th Five-Year Plan" period. On the basis of inheriting the unified creative cultural core of LEGO globally, the resort deeply integrates traditional Chinese culture and local characteristics of Shanghai. For example, elements such as Jiangnan water towns and Shanghai-style culture are incorporated into the construction of LEGO brick scenes, organically combining international brands with local culture, retaining the classic experience of LEGOLAND while endowing it with unique Chinese cultural heritage.

From the perspective of regional culture, Fengjing Town in Jinshan District, Shanghai itself has a thousand-year-old ancient town culture. The construction and operation of Shanghai LEGOLAND Resort has also become an important starting point for the integrated development of cultural tourism in Fengjing Town. It combines LEGO's creative culture with Fengjing's water town culture and folk culture, promoting the upgrading and innovation of the regional cultural tourism industry.
