Meridian View Center is located on the 69th floor of Diwang Building, No. 5002 Shennan East Road, Luohu District, Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province. It is a national 3A-level tourist attraction and also one of the first batch of red tourism attractions in Shenzhen. As Asia’s first high-rise themed sightseeing project, it is built inside Diwang Building. Diwang Building has a total height of 383.95 meters, the main building height is 324.8 meters and the antenna height is 59.15 meters. The main building has 69 floors with an aspect ratio of 1:9, once setting the world record for the slimmest skyscraper at that time. Construction of Diwang Building started in May 1994, topped out in June 1995 and was completed in March 1996. Upon completion, it ranked as the tallest building in Asia and the fourth tallest in the world. Meridian View Center officially opened on September 28, 1999. The sightseeing deck sits on the 69th floor of the building, featuring 15 themed exhibition zones integrating high-altitude urban sightseeing, history and culture display and multimedia interactive experiences. Its biggest highlight is the 360° overlook of downtown Shenzhen from one viewing platform. On clear days, visitors can look south toward the New Territories of Hong Kong and directly enjoy the urban scenery of Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
History and Culture
The land plot of Diwang Building set Shenzhen’s highest land price record in a land auction held in 1992, hence the name Diwang Building. Jointly developed by Shenye Group and Kumagai Gumi from Japan, the building combines Chinese and Western architectural concepts. Its design draws inspiration from the ancient Chinese philosophy of "heaven is round and earth is square" as well as Western architectural aesthetics. It stands as an iconic skyscraper of Shenzhen’s reform and opening-up era, witnessing the rapid urbanization of Shenzhen.
Meridian View Center opened to the public in 1999. It is an early sightseeing attraction in China that combines high-altitude viewing with urban historical and cultural exhibitions. Centered around the geographical, economic and humanistic bonds between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, the exhibition zones use scene restoration, wax figures, pictures, historical documents and videos to present the century-long development of Shenzhen and Hong Kong, major events of reform and opening-up, as well as stories of trade and cultural exchanges between the two cities. Since opening, the attraction has received numerous domestic and foreign dignitaries and tourists, serving as a window to learn about the development history of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and understand the relationship between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
Main Attractions
Century Milestone
Century Milestone is the core exhibition zone at the entrance of the attraction. It features lifelike wax figure scenes recreating important historical meetings, paired with large background murals and graphic display boards to tell historical stories related to Hong Kong’s return. It is the core site for red cultural exhibitions at the attraction.
Shenzhen-Hong Kong Tour
The Shenzhen-Hong Kong Tour exhibition zone uses graphics and model combinations to sort out the geographical connections between Shenzhen and Hong Kong since ancient times. It displays the origins of the two regions in geography, population and commerce, helping visitors understand the close bond between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
Overlooking Hong Kong to the South
Overlooking Hong Kong to the South is the circular viewing area on the south side, facing the Shenzhen River and the New Territories of Hong Kong. On sunny days, visitors can see the urban outline, mountains and villages in northern Hong Kong through the glass windows. The zone is equipped with marked introductions of landmarks in both places, explaining knowledge about the geographical boundary between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
A Century of Shenzhen-Hong Kong
A Century of Shenzhen-Hong Kong is a timeline corridor displaying pictures and historical materials. It shows the hundred years of historical changes of Shenzhen and Hong Kong in chronological order, covering early port exchanges, modern development, and the coordinated development of the two cities after reform and opening-up.
Shenzhen-Hong Kong Transport Hub
The Shenzhen-Hong Kong Transport Hub exhibition zone focuses on the construction history of the transportation system connecting Shenzhen and Hong Kong, including introductions to ports, highways and railways. It demonstrates the development of personnel and goods circulation between the two cities.
Business Opportunities Unlimited
The Business Opportunities Unlimited exhibition zone presents the history of investment promotion and the rise of export-oriented economy in Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. It uses photos and materials to describe how economic and trade cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong boosted Shenzhen’s economic development.
Lakes and Mountains Scenery
The Lakes and Mountains Scenery exhibition zone showcases natural landscape resources around Shenzhen and Hong Kong. It features photos of urban mountains and waters, introducing the ecological environment and natural scenery of the two regions.
Overnight City
The Overnight City exhibition zone focuses on the rapid construction history of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. Through old photos and documents, it shows the miracle of Shenzhen growing rapidly from a small fishing village into a modern metropolis.
Fun Ecology
Fun Ecology is a popular science exhibition zone introducing native animals and plants of Shenzhen, equipped with simple display devices. It is suitable for family visitors to learn about urban ecological knowledge.
Panoramic North View
Panoramic North View is the northern viewing area overlooking Luohu District and Futian CBD of Shenzhen. Visitors can see modern landmarks including Kingkey 100 and Ping An Finance Center. It is the prime spot to photograph Shenzhen’s city skyline.
Leisure Space
Leisure Space is the rest area inside the sightseeing deck with seats available for visitors to take a break and admire the city view outside the windows.
Overlooking Shenzhen to the North
Overlooking Shenzhen to the North has viewing windows and graphic introductions. It elaborates on urban functions and landmark histories of different districts in Shenzhen, helping visitors understand the urban layout beneath their feet.
Pirate Legend
Pirate Legend is an immersive themed exhibition zone. It tells historical stories of ancient coastal waters of Shenzhen with scene sets to enrich the sightseeing experience.
Gourmet Customs
The Gourmet Customs exhibition zone displays characteristic food cultures of Shenzhen and Hong Kong. It introduces Cantonese and Hong Kong-style delicacies and presents the shared folk catering culture of the two regions.
Shopping Paradise
The Shopping Paradise exhibition zone introduces the commercial development history of Hong Kong and Shenzhen, showing the evolution of business formats in both cities and reflecting the exchanges of consumption culture between the twin cities.

Sightseeing Tips
- It is recommended to enter the attraction between 16:00 and 17:00. Visitors can enjoy daytime city scenery, sunset view and urban night view successively to experience three different scenes in one trip.
- Visit on sunny days with good visibility for a clearer view of the New Territories of Hong Kong. Visibility will be poor on rainy and cloudy days.
- The sightseeing deck sits at high altitude with relatively low indoor temperature. It is recommended to bring a light jacket.
- Free guided tours are available at the attraction. You may follow guides to learn the historical background of each exhibition zone.
- The whole tour takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. The route is easy and suitable for the elderly and children.
- You may buy tickets online in advance for a lower price than on-site tickets. Online tickets are generally available for use 3 hours after purchase.
Notes
- The sightseeing deck is inside an office building and elevator transfer is required. Please follow the elevator management rules of the building and avoid crowding into elevators.
- Do not knock on or climb the viewing glass windows. Do not lean hard against the glass. Please protect attraction facilities.
- Strong winds occur in the high-altitude area. Keep your mobile phones, cameras and other personal belongings safe when taking photos to prevent falls.
- Please maintain order in the attraction. Keep quiet in exhibition zones and do not touch exhibits in the wax figure area.
- Flammable, explosive and controlled dangerous goods are prohibited inside the attraction.
- Visitors with severe hypertension, heart disease or acrophobia should consider their physical condition carefully before ascending to the sightseeing deck.
- The entry cut-off time is earlier than closing time. Please reserve sufficient time to avoid being denied entry upon arrival.
Transportation
- Metro: Take Shenzhen Metro Line 1 or Line 2 to Grand Theater Station, Exit D, then walk for 3 to 5 minutes to reach the 1st floor entrance of Diwang Building.
- Bus: Nearby bus stops are Diwang Building Stop and Shenzhen Book City Stop. Bus routes include Line 3, 10, 12, 29, 85, 101, 203, 214, 302, etc. Walk to Diwang Building after alighting.
- Self-driving: You may park in the underground parking lot of Diwang Building. Parking fee is about 5 RMB per hour, and the parking lot has roughly 800 parking spaces.
Opening Hours
Meridian View Center opens all year round from 08:00 to 22:30. Visitor entry stops at 21:30. Visitors must finish ticket checking and go upstairs before entry stops. The attraction may temporarily adjust opening hours for special inspection or equipment maintenance. Please check official notices before your trip.
