Chengdu Polar Ocean Park is located at No. 2039 South Tianfu Avenue, Huayang Street, Tianfu New Area, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, covering an area of 240,000 square meters. It is a national 4A-level tourist attraction. The scenic area features polar animal exhibitions, popular science education, and marine animal shows as its core characteristics, with 14 polar and marine animal pavilions, 7 marine circus arenas, and more than 30 land amusement facilities. It is a comprehensive marine theme park integrating tourism, leisure, science popularization, and entertainment.

History and Culture

Chengdu Polar Ocean Park was invested and constructed by Haichang Ocean Park Holdings Co., Ltd. and officially opened in July 2010. As the first polar ocean theme park in Southwest China, it filled the gap in the display and popular science of polar ocean culture in Sichuan and even Southwest China, becoming a marine cultural window for Chengdu to the whole country.

With the concept of close to nature, protect the ecology, the scenic area has been committed to marine life protection and science education for many years, receiving more than 10 million visitors accumulatively. It has successively won the honorary titles of "National Marine Science Education Base" and "Sichuan Province Science Education Base", becoming an important place for teenagers to learn marine knowledge.

Main Attractions

Polar Animal Pavilion

It includes Penguin Pavilion, Polar Bear Pavilion, Beluga Whale Pavilion, etc., housing polar animals such as Emperor Penguins, Papua Penguins, Polar Bears, and Beluga Whales. Among them, the Penguin Pavilion has the largest penguin population in Southwest China, and in the Beluga Whale Pavilion, you can watch performances such as beluga whales blowing rings and water ballet.

Marine Animal Show Arena

It can accommodate 3,000 spectators and holds classic marine animal shows such as dolphin leaps, sea lion ball balancing, and walrus cuteness shows every day. Each show lasts about 30 minutes, making it a must-see for parent-child visits.

Underwater Tunnel

80 meters long, built with acrylic glass, allowing visitors to fully watch marine creatures such as sharks and rays swimming overhead, experiencing an immersive underwater experience.

Jellyfish Pavilion

It displays more than 10 kinds of jellyfish such as moon jellyfish and Pacific sea nettle. The pavilion is equipped with dreamy lighting effects, creating a fantasy underwater atmosphere, making it a popular photo check-in spot.

Cute Pet Planet

It includes interactive areas for land cute pets such as alpacas, mini pigs, and Call ducks. Visitors can feed and take photos up close, experiencing parent-child interaction fun.

Cuisine

Ocean Theme Restaurant

Located in the central area of the scenic area, it can accommodate 500 people dining at the same time, providing Western fast food such as seafood set meals, hamburgers, and french fries, as well as Chinese meals such as Sichuan-style set meals and noodles, with an average consumption of about 60-80 yuan per person. The restaurant walls are designed with underwater landscapes, allowing visitors to watch virtual marine creatures swimming while dining.

Polar Ice Cream

A characteristic food of the scenic area, with ice creams in the shapes of animals such as penguins and polar bears, including flavors such as vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry, sold at about 25-35 yuan per portion, available at stalls around each pavilion.

Seafood Barbecue

Located in the park's snack street, it provides seafood barbecues such as grilled squid, grilled shrimp, and grilled oysters, paired with Sichuan-style chili powder, with an average consumption of about 30-50 yuan per person, a popular choice to experience Sichuan-style seafood.

Opening Hours

The scenic area is open throughout the year. Daily opening hours are 9:30-17:30 (stopping admission at 16:30); opening hours during summer vacation and legal holidays are 9:00-18:00 (stopping admission at 17:00). Marine animal show times are 10:30, 13:00, and 15:30, subject to the daily announcement of the scenic area.

The whole journey takes about 6-7 hours, covering major pavilions, shows, and dining, suitable for family and parent-child tourists.

  • Subway: Take Chengdu Metro Line 18 to Haichang Road Station, walk about 800 meters from Exit E to reach the scenic area.
  • Bus: Take buses such as T1, T7, and 501 to Polar Ocean World Station, then walk about 200 meters to arrive.
  • Self-driving: Navigate to "Chengdu Polar Ocean Park". The scenic area parking lot charges 10 yuan per hour, with a daily cap of 50 yuan.
  • Taxi: Taking a taxi from downtown Chengdu to the scenic area takes about 30-40 minutes, costing about 50-70 yuan.

Tour Tips

  • Check the day's show times through the official public account in advance, arrange the itinerary reasonably, and it is recommended to give priority to watching the first show at 10:30.
  • Ultraviolet rays are strong in the park in summer, so it is recommended to carry sunscreen and a sunhat. In winter, prepare a warm coat as the temperature difference inside and outside the pavilions is large.
  • Parent-child tourists can rent the park's strollers (deposit 200 yuan, rent 30 yuan/day) or bring baby strollers. Some pavilions are equipped with barrier-free access.
  • It is recommended to experience the park's 4D cinema (additional charge about 30 yuan/person) to watch marine theme special effects films and enhance the tour experience.

Precautions

  • Carrying inflammable and explosive items, pets, and self-prepared food and drinks into the park is prohibited (except baby food).
  • Do not stand or walk around during the show, and using flash photography is prohibited to avoid disturbing the animals.
  • Some amusement facilities have height and age restrictions. Parents should pay attention to the signs and ensure safety when accompanying children to play.
  • There are multiple restrooms and mother-and-baby rooms in the scenic area. Their locations can be referred to the park guide map. The mother-and-baby rooms provide services such as breastfeeding and diaper changing.
  • In case of rain, some outdoor facilities may be closed. It is recommended to pay attention to the park's broadcast or announcement and adjust the tour route.
