Splendid China Folk Village is located at No. 9003, Shennan Avenue, Overseas Chinese Town, Nanshan District, Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province. It is a national 5A-level tourist attraction, consisting of two major zones: Splendid China Miniature Scenic Area and China Folk Culture Village. The two parks officially merged on New Year's Day in 2003 and adopted a one-ticket system for visiting both areas. The total area of the scenic spot is about 320,000 square meters, among which Splendid China Miniature Scenic Area covers 120,000 square meters and China Folk Culture Village occupies 200,000 square meters. Splendid China Miniature Scenic Area is the world's largest and richest real-scene miniature scenic area. There are 82 well-known domestic scenic spots inside the park. Most attractions are reproduced at a scale of 1:15, while a small number are built at 1:10 or 1:1. The scenic spots are arranged according to the geographical layout of China's territory, with more than 50,000 ceramic figurines recreating historical scenes. China Folk Culture Village contains 28 ethnic villages, most of whose buildings are restored at a 1:1 ratio, showcasing the folk customs of 56 ethnic groups. The slogan of the scenic area is "One step into history, one day to travel across China". It is the first large-scale cultural theme park in China, hailed as a pioneer of Chinese man-made landscapes. It has also won honors such as One of the Forty Best Tourist Attractions in China and One of the Top Ten Scenic Spots in Pengcheng.
History and Culture
The Splendid China project was jointly invested and constructed by Overseas Chinese Town Group and China Travel Service (Hong Kong) Group. Construction started in 1987, and Splendid China Miniature Scenic Area officially opened to the public on November 22, 1989, creating a brand-new form of theme park business in China. The construction team traveled to many places across the country for field investigation and mapping, precisely reproducing ancient buildings and mountain-and-river landscapes. Historical relics from different regions of China are condensed within the park, allowing visitors to intuitively experience China's mountains, rivers and ancient civilizations in a limited space.
As the sister park of Splendid China, China Folk Culture Village started construction in 1990 and officially opened in October 1991. It is the first large-scale cultural tourist area in China focusing on displaying folk arts, folk customs and residential buildings of various ethnic groups. The park invites local ethnic actors to perform, bringing ethnic songs and dances, traditional festivals and folk handicrafts into the park. Static buildings combined with live performances fully present the original culture of ethnic minorities, earning it the reputation of "China Folk Custom Museum".
In 2003, Splendid China Miniature Scenic Area and China Folk Culture Village merged for unified operation, integrating two visiting sections: miniature historic sites and ethnic villages. The park regularly holds festivals such as Water-Splashing Festival, Torch Festival and Ethnic Grand Temple Fair, and presents classic performances including Legend of the Desert, Oriental Beauty and Dragon and Phoenix Dancing for China, continuously promoting the multi-ethnic culture of China. The International Asteroid Union even named Asteroid 3088 "Splendid China", a rare honor in the global theme park industry.
Main Attractions
The Great Wall
The miniature landscape of the Great Wall is the landmark attraction of Splendid China. It is built in reduced scale following the form of the real Great Wall, stretching continuously along the small hillside of the park. Details including beacon towers, city walls and crenellations are fully reproduced. The landscape restores the magnificent momentum of the Great Wall and is a popular check-in spot after entering the park. Visitors can walk along the path of the miniature Great Wall and observe the masonry structure up close.
Potala Palace
The miniature landscape of the Potala Palace is built against the mountain, restoring the red-and-white facade of the real Potala Palace. Palace layers, window openings and golden roofs are reproduced in proportion. The overall shape is solemn and elegant. It is a popular ancient-style photography spot in the park, and many tourists take Hanfu photos here.
Forbidden City
The miniature landscape of the Forbidden City includes supporting sights such as the Hall of Supreme Harmony and the Nine-Dragon Wall. Details such as the upturned eaves and brackets of palaces, glazed tiles and the Golden Water Bridge are all reproduced. Ceramic figurines in the scene recreate ancient court scenes. The Nine-Dragon Wall is imitated with glazed materials, featuring bright colors and exquisitely carved dragon patterns, fully restoring the shape of Beijing's Nine-Dragon Wall.
Mogao Grottoes
The miniature landscape of the Mogao Grottoes adopts a 1:1 scale to build caves and replicate the outer shape of grottoes. The caves contain imitated murals, recreating the artistic characteristics of Dunhuang Grottoes. It is one of the rare 1:1 restored miniature attractions in the park, showcasing the grotto culture of Northwest China.
Dai Village
Dai Village is located inside China Folk Culture Village. Built at a 1:1 ratio according to Dai dwellings in Xishuangbanna, it is a stilted wooden structure with steep roof slopes, retaining the characteristics of Dai stilt architecture. The village regularly holds water-splashing interactions and Dai singing and dancing performances. Visitors may enter the bamboo houses to view daily furnishings of the Dai people.
Dong Village
Dong Village consists of two core buildings: Dong Drum Tower and Wind and Rain Bridge, all constructed with solid wood. The drum tower stands tall, and the Wind and Rain Bridge spans the water, fully reproducing Dong architectural craftsmanship. The village displays Dong Grand Chorus and weaving handicrafts. Visitors can watch Dong intangible cultural heritage skills up close.
Tibetan Village
Tibetan Village restores Tibetan residential buildings and features prayer wheels and mani piles. The buildings are mainly painted red and white. Tibetan songs and dances are performed regularly in the village. Visitors can turn prayer wheels and experience Tibetan praying customs.
Mongolian Yurts
The yurts are real-scene restored buildings in the folk village, retaining the traditional style of round felt houses. The interior furnishings reproduce the living scenes of grassland herdsmen. The village arranges Mongolian singing, dancing and wrestling performances to display grassland ethnic customs.
Legend of the Desert Performance Venue
Legend of the Desert Performance Venue is a large-scale real-scene horse battle performance site equipped with horses and pyrotechnic special effects. The stage recreates ancient frontier battlefields. The show integrates equestrianism, martial arts and blasting special effects, serving as the signature daytime performance of the scenic area.
Dragon and Phoenix Dancing for China Theater
Dragon and Phoenix Dancing for China is a large outdoor square performance venue for night shows, the grand finale stage of the scenic area. It presents multi-ethnic songs, dances, acrobatics and lighting effects, usually staged in the evening, and is the core highlight of night tours.

Travel Tips
- The scenic area covers a large area with long walking distances. Visitors with limited physical strength may buy tickets for the park shuttle carts, which allow getting on and off at any stop to save energy.
- Pick up a paper guide map at the gate upon entry. Check the daily performance schedule in advance to reasonably plan your check-in sequence and avoid missing shows.
- Apply sun protection during summer visits. Prepare spare clothes for the Water-Splashing Festival in the folk village. Quick-dry clothes are recommended when joining water-splashing activities.
- Visit Splendid China Miniature Scenic Area in the morning preferably. The miniature zone closes at 18:00. Focus on ethnic villages and night performances in the afternoon and evening.
- Visitors fond of ancient-style Hanfu photos may bring their own costumes. Many miniature ancient buildings and ethnic villages in the park are suitable for ancient-style photography.
- Bring drinking water by yourself. Food and drinks sold inside the park are relatively expensive, and you may carry a small amount of snacks.
- Visitors with tight schedules can choose night tickets for entry after 17:30 to mainly experience village night views and evening performances.
Notes
- Identity documents are required to enter the scenic area. Seniors, children, military personnel and other groups enjoying ticket discounts must present corresponding certificates for verification at entry.
- Seats for some performances inside the park are limited. Arrive early and queue up for popular shows.
- Climbing buildings, treading or touching miniature models are forbidden in the miniature zone to prevent damage to landscapes.
- The ground is slippery in the water-splashing zone. Walk carefully. Adults must accompany and supervise elders and children joining water-splashing activities.
- Night light shows and iron flower performances include strong lights and high-temperature sparks. Follow instructions from on-site staff and do not cross safety barriers.
- Drones and kites are prohibited inside the scenic area.
- Parking spaces for self-driving tourists are limited. Parking is tight on weekends and holidays. Public transport is preferred.
- Take good care of accompanying elders and children. There are many waters in the park. Keep a close watch near lakes to prevent falling into water.

- Metro: Take Shenzhen Metro Line 1 to OCT Station, Exit D. Walk 3 to 5 minutes to reach the main gate of the scenic spot.
- Bus: Take bus No.101, 113, 223, M487 and others, get off at Splendid China Stop and walk to the scenic area.
- Self-driving: Navigate to the main gate parking lot of Splendid China Folk Village. The parking lot charges fees, and parking spaces are tight during holidays.
- Taxi: Navigate directly to the main gate of Splendid China Folk Village. The drop-off point is the entrance of the scenic spot.
Opening Hours
The regular opening hours of the scenic area are 09:30 to 22:00. The Splendid China Miniature Scenic Area closes at 18:00 every day, while China Folk Culture Village and performance venues remain open until 22:00. Night ticket entry generally starts at 17:30, granting access only to the folk village and night performances. Opening hours and performance schedules may be adjusted during statutory holidays and summer vacations. It is recommended to check the official announcement of the scenic spot for the latest information before travel.
