History and Culture
Mining Development History
In the 1930s, Soviet geologists discovered abnormal contents of rare metal elements in the river silt of the middle and lower reaches of the Irtysh River. Subsequently, they found 8 beryl producing areas, including the "No. 3 Ore Vein," in Keketuohai, uncovering the world-class rare metal deposit. The rare metal minerals in Keketuohai have made significant contributions to China's nuclear industry and aerospace industry. A considerable portion of the materials for China's independently developed first atomic bomb and hydrogen bomb came from the No. 3 Ore Vein.
Historical Relics of Earthquakes
Early in the morning on August 11, 1931, a magnitude 8.0 "Fuyun earthquake" occurred in the area of Karaxanger south of Keketuohai. The severely affected area stretched from the Altay Mountains in Qinghe County in the south to the Keketuohai Basin in the north, causing a fault rupture zone as long as 176 kilometers. It is one of the rarest and most intact fault zones in the world, providing precious physical materials for the study of earthquake geology.
Humanistic History
Keketuohai Town has preserved many old buildings, old factories, and old wooden bridges from the 1950s and 1960s, witnessing the prosperity of mining development at that time. In the Keketuohai Geological Exhibition Hall, a series of old photos and objects tell the stories of the arduous entrepreneurship and selfless dedication of the people of Keketuohai in those years, showing the unique humanistic and historical connotations of Keketuohai.
