Xiaotangshan Modern Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park is located in Xiaotangshan Town, Changping District, Beijing. It is a national agricultural science and technology park, a national 4A-level tourist attraction, as well as an important modern agricultural demonstration base and popular science education base in Beijing. The park features "technology-led, ecological priority, and leisure experience", integrating modern agricultural display, popular science education, leisure and sightseeing, and agricultural experience.
The total area of the park is about 10,000 mu, with a core area of 3,000 mu. It is divided into functional areas such as intelligent greenhouse area, open-field planting area, leisure picking area, and popular science exhibition area. Among them, the total area of intelligent greenhouses reaches 50,000 square meters, including various types such as Dutch-style glass greenhouses and solar greenhouses. Equipped with advanced agricultural technology facilities such as intelligent temperature control, drip irrigation and fertilization, and soilless cultivation, it demonstrates the high-tech level of modern agriculture.
Historical Culture
Xiaotangshan area has a long agricultural history. Due to its rich hot spring resources, it has been an important planting area in the suburbs of Beijing since ancient times, especially good at cultivating fruits and vegetables. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, vegetable cultivation in Xiaotangshan had formed a certain scale, and some products were once supplied to the royal family as tributes.
Xiaotangshan Modern Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park was founded in 1998, which is a key demonstration project built by Beijing to promote agricultural modernization. After years of development, the park has gradually expanded from the initial simple planting demonstration to a comprehensive agricultural park integrating scientific research, production, sightseeing, and education. It has witnessed the transformation of Beijing's modern agriculture from traditional planting to technology and industrialization, and has become an important window to display the achievements of China's modern agricultural development.

Intelligent Greenhouse Exhibition Area
The intelligent greenhouse exhibition area is the core attraction of the park, with a total area of 50,000 square meters, composed of multiple theme greenhouses. Among them, the Dutch-style glass greenhouse covers an area of 30,000 square meters, adopts a fully automatic environmental control system, and grows various fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and colored peppers. It achieves high yield and efficiency through soilless cultivation, three-dimensional planting and other technologies. In addition, there is a soilless cultivation demonstration area, which displays advanced technologies such as hydroponics and aeroponics. The lettuce, strawberries and other crops grown here have a short growth cycle and excellent quality, allowing visitors to observe the entire process of modern agricultural planting at close range.
Agricultural Science Popularization Museum
The Agricultural Science Popularization Museum covers a construction area of 2,000 square meters. Through physical displays, interactive experiences, and multimedia demonstrations, it systematically introduces the history of agricultural development, modern agricultural scientific and technological achievements, and the future development trend of agriculture. There is an agricultural experience area in the museum where visitors can participate in simple agricultural activities such as sowing and grafting to understand the growth rules of crops; there is also an agricultural science and technology laboratory, displaying cutting-edge technologies such as genetic breeding and biological control, which is suitable for parent-child families and student groups to visit and study.
Leisure Picking Area
The leisure picking area covers an area of 1,500 mu, divided into fruit and vegetable picking areas, flower picking areas, etc. The fruit and vegetable picking area grows more than 20 kinds of crops such as strawberries, cherries, tomatoes, and eggplants, adopting green planting standards to ensure no pesticide residues in the fruits. The picking period lasts from January to November, and there are seasonal fruits and vegetables available for picking in different seasons. The flower picking area cultivates ornamental flowers such as roses, lilies, and carnations. Visitors can pick them by themselves and make bouquets to experience the fun of farming.
Eco-Restaurant
The eco-restaurant has a construction area of 5,000 square meters, adopting a greenhouse structure design, with a large number of tropical plants planted inside, creating a natural and ecological dining environment. The restaurant's ingredients mainly come from the park's own fruits and vegetables and local characteristic agricultural products, and launches special dishes such as strawberry cake, vegetable salad, and farm stew. Visitors can taste fresh and healthy rural food here while enjoying the greenhouse green plant landscape.
Agricultural Culture Square
Agricultural Culture Square is located in the central area of the park, covering an area of 8,000 square meters. Traditional farming tools such as plows, harrows, and waterwheels are displayed on the square, forming a sharp contrast with the surrounding modern agricultural facilities, reflecting the development and inheritance of agricultural technology. The square regularly holds agricultural festivals, such as Strawberry Culture Festival and Harvest Festival, during which there are agricultural performances, agricultural product exhibitions and other activities, attracting a large number of visitors to participate.

Park Ecological Fruit and Vegetable Feast
The ecological fruit and vegetable feast launched by the park's eco-restaurant uses fresh fruits and vegetables produced in the park as the main ingredients, including dishes such as cold lettuce, tomato beef brisket, and strawberry mousse. The ingredients are picked and cooked within 24 hours, which maximizes the retention of the nutrition and taste of fruits and vegetables. Among them, the "greenhouse vegetable platter" uses more than 5 kinds of colored vegetables grown in the greenhouse, paired with special sauce, which is refreshing and delicious, and is a must-try dish.
Xiaotangshan Hot Spring Tofu
Due to the excellent quality of hot spring water in Xiaotangshan area, the tofu made is tender in texture and rich in bean flavor. The hot spring tofu in surrounding restaurants is made by traditional craftsmanship, which can be made into mapo tofu, tofu soup, etc. Especially the "hot spring tofu pot" is the most distinctive, using local tofu with mushrooms and shrimps to simmer slowly. The soup is delicious, and the tofu is full of soup, with a rich taste.
Suburban Farmhouse Dishes (Surrounding Farmhouses)
Farmhouses around the park provide authentic suburban farmhouse dishes, such as braised chicken with mushrooms, pancakes with small fish, fried prickly ash buds, etc. Among them, "braised chicken with mushrooms" uses locally raised free-range chickens, paired with wild mushrooms and potatoes, and simmered with firewood for more than 2 hours. The meat is firm, the soup is rich, and it is eaten with corn pancakes, which has a strong local flavor.

Opening Hours
The park is open all year round. The opening hours are: 9:00-17:00 from Monday to Friday (admission stops at 16:30); 8:30-18:00 on Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays (admission stops at 17:30).
The opening hours of the picking area are slightly adjusted according to the growth cycle of crops. Among them, the strawberry picking period is from December to May of the next year, the cherry picking period is from May to June, and the vegetable picking period is from April to October. Tour Route
Suggested tour route: After entering from the main gate of the park, first visit the intelligent greenhouse exhibition area (about 1.5 hours) to understand modern agricultural planting technology; then go to the Agricultural Science Popularization Museum (about 1 hour) to participate in interactive experience projects; have lunch in the eco-restaurant at noon (about 1 hour); in the afternoon, go to the leisure picking area to experience picking (about 2 hours), and you can choose strawberries, cherries or vegetables according to the season; finally, visit the Agricultural Culture Square (about 0.5 hours) to understand agricultural history. The total tour time is about 6 hours.
If traveling with children, you can add activities in the agricultural experience area and extend the stay time in the science museum; if picking is the main purpose, you can extend the tour time in the picking area to 3 hours, and check the main picking varieties of the season in advance.
Transportation
- Bus: Take Metro Line 5 to Tiantongyuan North Station, transfer to Bus 905 to Xiaotangshan Agricultural Park Station, and walk about 300 meters to reach. The interval of Bus 905 is 15-20 minutes, and the whole journey takes about 40 minutes.
- Self-driving: From the urban area, take the Jingzang Expressway (G6) to the North Sixth Ring Road, exit from Xiaotangshan, drive east along Shunsha Road for 3 kilometers to reach the park parking lot. The park parking lot offers free parking and can accommodate 500 small cars.
- Tourist special line: Every Saturday, Sunday and legal holidays, there is a tourist special line from Dongzhimen Transportation Hub directly to the park, departing at 8:30 and returning at 16:30. The one-way ticket price is 20 yuan per person, and you can make a phone reservation 1 day in advance.

- The best travel season is from April to October. At this time, the climate is pleasant, there are the most varieties of fruits and vegetables that can be picked, and the park landscape outside the greenhouse is more abundant.
- It is recommended to wear comfortable sports shoes and easy-to-move clothes when picking. The park provides picking baskets and gloves, so there is no need to bring your own tools.
- The science museum and intelligent greenhouse have professional narrators. You can pay attention to the explanation time on the park bulletin board (once every hour). Following the explanation can help you understand agricultural knowledge more deeply.
- Parent-child families can participate in the "Little Farmer" experience activities held on weekends in the park (reservation is required 1 day in advance), including sowing, watering, making plant specimens, etc., suitable for children aged 5-12.
- The park is large, so it is recommended to prepare a portable water bottle and a small amount of snacks. There are multiple rest areas in the park where you can rest at any time.
Notes
- The temperature in the intelligent greenhouse is high (especially in summer). It is recommended to carry tissues with you and wear breathable clothes. The temperature difference between the entrance and exit of the greenhouse is large, so pay attention to preventing colds.
- When picking, you must abide by the park regulations, only pick mature fruits and vegetables, must not damage the plants at will, and must not taste the picked fruits and vegetables that have not been purchased.
- Smoking is strictly prohibited in the park, and it is strictly forbidden to touch equipment switches and pipes in the greenhouse area to avoid affecting crop growth or causing safety accidents.
- There are many tourists on weekends and holidays. It is recommended to arrive before 9:00 am to avoid the peak period from 10:30 to 14:00 and reduce waiting time.
- Some areas in the park are muddy, which are slippery on rainy days. It is recommended to check the weather forecast in advance, carry rain gear on rainy days, and pay attention to walking safety.
