Lingnan Impression Park is located on West Outer Ring Road, Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center, Panyu District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, in the southern part of Xiaoguwei Island of Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center. It is a National 4A-level tourist attraction, a cultural tourism park showcasing the traditional Lingnan residential architecture, folk customs and folk craftsmanship. Covering a land area of 165,000 square meters, the park is reconstructed based on original village relics. Its buildings are mainly designed in the style of Lingnan rural settlements from the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China, restoring typical Lingnan architectural forms including wok-ear houses, oyster-shell walls, arcades, ancestral halls, courtyards and bluestone alleys. Centered on original Lingnan local customs, the park gathers Cantonese opera, Cantonese snacks, traditional handicrafts and Lingnan folk performances to fully present the folk life scenes of Cantonese regions, serving as an important venue to experience Lingnan rural culture.
History and Culture
Lingnan Impression Park was originally Lianxi Ancient Village on Xiaoguwei Island, Panyu. With a village development history spanning hundreds of years, Lianxi Village retains a large number of Lingnan dwellings and ancestral halls built from the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China. During the planning and construction of Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center, local authorities launched a protective renovation project for the ancient village to preserve native Lingnan architectural heritage. Lingnan Impression Park was built while maintaining the original alley layout and frameworks of historic buildings. After official opening to the public, the park has continuously explored Cantonese rural folk customs, clan culture and marketplace commercial culture.
The park mainly carries Cantonese culture and integrates the living traditions of the Pearl River Delta water towns. Traditional folk customs of Lingnan such as clan worship, Dragon Boat Festival races, Mid-Autumn moon appreciation, wedding rituals, Cantonese opera amateur troupes, puppet shows and lion dances are regularly presented here. It also collects classic Lingnan traditional handicrafts including Cantonese enamel, Cantonese embroidery, olive pit carving, bamboo weaving and paper-cutting. The park recreates social scenes of modern Lingnan such as ancient market towns, private schools, money shops, pawnshops and old teahouses, preserving the unique cultural memory of villages in the Pearl River Delta.
Main Attractions
Lianxi Main Street
Lianxi Main Street is the core alley of the scenic area, modelled after market streets in Cantonese towns from the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China. Arcade-style shops line both sides, recreating businesses of old times including general stores, herbal medicine shops, tailor shops and photo studios. The street is paved with bluestones, decorated with vintage signboards and bamboo awnings. Folk stalls and traditional snack booths operate daily. It is a key spot for sightseeing, appreciating market culture and taking photos.
Wok-ear House Complex
The wok-ear house complex is a landmark Lingnan architectural cluster. The buildings feature saddleback walls shaped like the two ears of an iron wok. Walls extensively adopt oyster shells, blue bricks and grey sculpture techniques. The interiors restore halls, bedrooms and kitchens of ordinary Lingnan families and display traditional Cantonese household layouts, intuitively showing the living conditions of rural residents in the Pearl River Delta in modern times.
Grand Huo Ancestral Hall
The Grand Huo Ancestral Hall originates from the original clan ancestral hall of Lianxi Ancient Village. A typical Lingnan ancestral hall, it features a complete layout consisting of main gate, courtyard, worship pavilion and rear hall. It preserves Lingnan decorative arts of wood carving, brick carving, grey sculpture and stone carving. The hall was used for clan meetings and ancestor worship in the past. Nowadays it hosts permanent exhibitions about Lingnan clan culture and occasional traditional ritual music performances.
Lianxi Opera Stage
Lianxi Opera Stage is constructed following the style of ancient Cantonese opera stages. It regularly stages Cantonese opera excerpts, lion dance performances and Lingnan puppet shows. Adopting an open layout decorated with traditional carved wooden railings, the stage restores the scene of rural open-air opera performances where villagers gathered to watch shows in old times.
Water Town Lake Area
The scenic area retains Lingnan water landscapes with winding waterways, stone bridges and docks. Visitors can admire waterside Lingnan residential buildings. Lush plants surround the waters, reproducing the characteristic waterside settlement lifestyle of Pearl River Delta water towns. It is suitable for leisurely walks and enjoying water town scenery.
Traditional Handicraft Workshops
The handicraft workshop zone gathers studios for olive pit carving, paper-cutting, Cantonese embroidery, sugar painting and other traditional crafts. Artisans demonstrate creation on site. Visitors can watch intangible cultural heritage crafts of Lingnan up close, and interactive experience is available for selected projects.

- A suggested visiting duration is 3 to 4 hours. Reserve time for scheduled folk performances; visitors may consult staff for performance schedules after entering the park.
- It is recommended to enter the park in the morning or after 15:00 to avoid midday heat, as shade along alleys inside the park is limited.
- Reserve extra time if you plan to try intangible cultural heritage handicraft experiences; separate fees apply for some activities.
- Many Cantonese snack shops are distributed in the park. You can taste Lingnan delicacies such as congee with assorted ingredients, double skin milk and rice pudding along the way.
- Photography lovers are recommended to visit the wok-ear house cluster, Lianxi Main Street and stone bridges in the water town area, where Lingnan ancient buildings make ideal shooting backdrops.
- The park receives larger crowds during holidays. Off-peak travel is recommended. More folk activities are arranged on weekends and legal holidays than on weekdays.
Notes
- Ancient buildings inside the park are protected heritage. Do not climb walls, touch grey sculptures and wood carvings, or make random marks and graffiti.
- Folk performances follow fixed schedules with no extra shows. Plan your itinerary properly to avoid missing performances.
- Do not chase and play near the waterside along lake banks. Keep an eye on accompanying children.
- Pets are not allowed inside the park except guide dogs.
- Additional fees apply for some interactive experiences, cultural and creative goods and catering services. Admission tickets do not cover all experience activities.
- Some outdoor performances and trails may be temporarily closed during heavy rain or severe convective weather. Please follow instructions from on-site staff.
- Open flames and drones are prohibited in the scenic area. Drones cannot take off without official approval.
Transportation
- Metro: Take Guangzhou Metro Line 4 to Higher Education Mega Center South Station. Transfer to buses or ride bicycles to the scenic spot after exiting.
- Bus: Take bus routes 384, 387 and other lines to reach Lingnan Impression Park stop.
- Self-driving: Navigate to Lingnan Impression Park. Parking lots are available at the scenic area. Parking fees follow standards posted at the parking area.
- Cycling: Shared bicycles are widely available within Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center. You can cycle directly to the park entrance from all zones of the university town.
Opening Hours
Lingnan Impression Park normally opens from 09:00 to 17:00, with ticket checking closing at 16:30. Adjustments during legal holidays will be announced in advance via official platforms.
