Lalikun National Wetland Park is located in Yawa Township, Moyu County, Hotan Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on the southern edge of the Taklimakan Desert. It is a national 4A-level scenic area. The park is characterized by its integration of reservoir wetlands, reed swamps, and desert landscapes, featuring diverse ecosystems such as wetlands and sandlands. With rich flora and fauna resources and various wetland types including marshes, rivers, lakes, and reservoirs, it serves as an ecological security barrier for the sandy areas of Moyu County and even Hotan Prefecture. The total planned area of the scenic area is 13,000 hectares, with a wetland area of 5,880 hectares, including 448 hectares of river wetlands. The park invested a total of 198,025,800 yuan during the construction period, with facilities such as a visitor center, ecological parking lot, RV camping base, and tourist public toilets.
History and Culture
Before becoming a wetland park, Lalikun was locally known as the "alkali pit," mainly used to discharge water from local farmers' irrigation. The slope protection along the shore was all "hard shells" due to excessive alkali content. In 2012, Lalikun Wetland began comprehensive protective development and construction, with Moyu County investing 360 million yuan in its protective development through investment attraction. In December 2018, Lalikun Wetland Park in the lower reaches of the Karakash River in Moyu was approved as a national wetland park by the State Forestry Administration. After years of careful management, the vegetation in Lalikun Wetland has been restored, and the number and species of wild animals and plants have significantly increased, making it an important ecological barrier and a key stopover for migratory birds in the region.
