The Yangtze River Cableway is located in Chongqing, China, shuttling between Xinhua Road in Yuzhong District and Shangxin Street in Nan'an District. It is a national 4A-level tourist attraction and the first large-scale cross-river passenger cableway on the Yangtze River designed and manufactured by China itself, known as the "First Sky Corridor of the Yangtze River" and the "Urban Sky Bus." The scenic area consists of three parts: Yuzhong Urban History and Culture Zone, Yangtze River Aerial Sightseeing Zone, and Nan'an Film and Television Culture Zone, covering a total area of 9.8 square kilometers. The cableway is 1,166 meters long, with a full journey of about 5 minutes. The passenger cabin has a capacity of 65 + 1 people and is equipped with anti-sway devices resistant to level 5-6 winds, featuring safety, environmental protection, speed, convenience, punctuality, and all-weather operation.

History and Culture

The Yangtze River Cableway began construction on March 20, 1986, and was completed and put into operation on October 24, 1987, serving as the first sky corridor on the Yangtze River and having safely operated for over 30 years. It is not only an important transportation tool for Chongqing residents to cross the river but also a symbol of the city's history and culture, witnessing Chongqing's development and carrying the memory of Bayu culture. Many film and television works have been filmed here, making it one of Chongqing's cultural symbols.

Main Attractions

Flying Over Yucheng

Visitors taking the cableway soar over the Yangtze River, enjoying a panoramic view of the urban landscapes and river scenery on both banks. This unique perspective from high above allows them to experience Chongqing's "three-dimensional magic" cityscape.

Cableway Cultural Relics Exhibition Area

This exhibition area displays historical relics, old photos, and construction materials related to the Yangtze River Cableway, detailing its construction process and development history, and enabling visitors to understand the stories behind this urban transportation marvel.

Haoyue Pavilion

Located at the southern station of the cableway, this viewing platform is an excellent spot to admire the night view of the Yangtze River. At night, visitors can enjoy the bright lights on both sides of the river and feel the charm of the mountain city's night scenery.

Tree of Memory

Planted at the northern station of the cableway, this landscape tree symbolizes the shared growth memory between the Yangtze River Cableway and Chongqing, making it a popular photo-taking spot for visitors.

Chongqing Small Noodles

There are many small noodle shops around the Yangtze River Cableway scenic area. Chongqing small noodles are famous for their spicy and savory taste, with chewy noodles, rich soup, and various seasonings and side dishes, being one of Chongqing people's favorite breakfasts.

Hot and Sour Noodles

A characteristic snack of Chongqing, made mainly from sweet potato noodles and seasoned with chili oil, Sichuan pepper, and vinegar. It has a hot and sour taste, making it a must-try for visitors to experience Chongqing flavors.

Mountain City Tangyuan

A dessert with rich local characteristics, the tangyuan (glutinous rice balls) are soft and sweet, with various fillings such as sesame, peanut, and walnut, being one of Chongqing's traditional snacks.

The ticket price for the Yangtze River Cableway is 30 RMB for a one-way trip and 50 RMB for a round trip.

Opening Hours

The Yangtze River Cableway is open year-round. During summer (March 1 - November 30), it operates from 07:30 to 22:30; during winter (December 1 - February end of the following year), it operates from 07:30 to 21:30. Itinerary Recommendations

Recommended Route 1: Start from the northern station in Yuzhong District, take the cableway across the Yangtze River to the southern station in Nan'an District, visit historical and cultural sites such as Longmenhao Old Street and the French Navy Barracks, then take a walk along Nanbin Road to enjoy the Yangtze River scenery, and return to Yuzhong District in the evening to admire the night view of Hongya Cave.

Recommended Route 2: Start from the southern station in Nan'an District, take the cableway to the northern station in Yuzhong District, visit commercial areas such as Jiefangbei and Bayi Food Street, taste Chongqing's special foods, and then walk to Hongya Cave to experience the dreamy scene reminiscent of "Spirited Away."

Transportation

  • Bus: Take buses 153, 262, 401, 476, etc., get off at "Xiaoshizi" station, and walk about 5 minutes to reach the northern station of the Yangtze River Cableway; take buses 304, 318, 320, etc., get off at "Longmenhao" station, and walk about 3 minutes to reach the southern station.
  • Metro: Take Metro Line 1 or Line 6 to "Xiaoshizi" station, exit from No. 5, and walk about 300 meters to reach the northern station; take Metro Loop Line to "Shangxin Street" station, exit from No. 2, and walk about 800 meters to reach the southern station.
  • Self-driving: The scenic area has parking lots. The northern station parking lot in Yuzhong District is located at No. 151 Xinhua Road, and the southern station parking lot in Nan'an District is near Longmenhao Old Street. The parking fee is 10 RMB per hour.

  • Inside the Yangtze River Cableway Cabin: Experience the thrill and shock of flying over the Yangtze River, and enjoy the unique urban landscapes on both banks, especially the charming scenery at dusk or night.
  • Baixiangju Viewing Platform: Located in the Baixiangju Community in Yuzhong District, it is an excellent spot to photograph the cableway passing through residential buildings, where many movies and TV series have been filmed.
  • Nanbin Road Bell Tower Square: Overlooking the Yangtze River Cableway from Nanbin Road in Nan'an District, you can have a panoramic view of the cableway, the Yangtze River, and the skyline of Yuzhong Peninsula, making it an ideal place for panoramic photography.
